Garbage & Recycling
Keeping Sky Gate clean, safe, and welcoming starts with using the garbage and recycling areas properly.
Our shared waste rooms are for regular household garbage and approved recycling only. Please take a moment to sort items correctly, flatten boxes, and keep the area tidy for your neighbours and the collection team.
Know Your Bins

Garbage
Garbage bins are located in the fenced garbage areas and are clearly marked. These are for regular household refuse only. All garbage must be securely bagged and tied before being placed in the bin.
Separate bins are also provided for cardboard โ please ensure boxes are flattened before disposal.
Do Not Place These Items in the Bins
Some items cannot go in the garbage or recycling bins and must be handled separately. Please do not dispose of the following in the garbage area:
Furniture, mattresses, and bed frames
Shelving and appliances
Computers and electronics
Batteries
Paint, solvents, chemicals, or hazardous materials
Propane tanks or flammable materials
Renovation or construction debris
Flooring, drywall, wood, tile, or fixtures
Tires or automotive parts
Large seasonal items
Any oversized item that does not fit safely inside the bin
If you are unsure whether something belongs in the garbage or recycling area, please arrange private disposal or ask before leaving it behind.
Large Items Are the Resident's Responsibility
Large items must not be left in the garbage room, beside the bins, in the parkade, hallways, stairwells, loading areas, or any other common property area. This includes furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, shelving, bed frames, and similar bulky items.
Residents are responsible for arranging removal at their own expense through a private disposal service, recycling depot, donation pickup, or other suitable arrangement.
Items left behind may result in:
- Removal costs being billed back to the responsible strata lot
- Bylaw or rule enforcement
- Possible fines or other enforcement steps
- Additional costs to the community if the responsible party cannot be identified
Keeping the Garbage Area Clean
Bag and tie garbage
All household garbage must be securely bagged and tied. Double-bag anything that may leak or create odours.
Flatten boxes
All cardboard boxes must be broken down and flattened before being placed in the recycling container. Unflattened boxes fill the bins quickly and make it harder for others to use the room.
Use the correct bin
Place recyclables, cardboard, glass, and garbage in the correct containers. Mixing materials can contaminate recycling and increase disposal costs.
Do not leave items beside bins
If an item does not fit inside the correct bin, it does not belong in the garbage room. Please remove it privately.
Keep common areas clear
Garbage, recycling, and unwanted items must not be left in stairwells, hallways, parkade areas, lobbies, or other common areas.
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous materials must never be placed in the garbage or recycling bins. This includes paint, solvents, chemicals, pesticides, propane tanks, batteries, flammable materials, and similar items.
Hazardous materials create serious risks
These materials can create fire, safety, environmental, and collection risks. Please take hazardous items to an appropriate depot or disposal facility.
Help Keep Costs Down
Improper disposal affects everyone. Contaminated recycling, dumped furniture, hazardous materials, and overflowing bins can result in extra cleanup costs, additional hauling charges, and increased strata expenses.
A clean garbage area is one of those small things that makes a big difference. Thank you for doing your part.
Report an Issue
If the garbage area is full, blocked, unsafe, has odour concerns, or if you notice dumped items, please report it through the Resident Portal. Include as much detail as possible โ building, location, date, time, and a photo if available.
